Henkel Harris Mahogany Chippendale Dining Chairs (Ca. 1978) Part 2

In the previous post concerning these chairs, I described the repairs made to the furniture. Now that all of the repairs are complete, this post concerns the restoration of the finish. These chairs have a Nitro-Cellulose Lacquer applied to them which is not a restorable finish. However, the finish was in pretty good shape so it could be touched-up where necessary, sealed , and waxed. Using these methods, the results are pretty nice! below are some photos of this process.

This first photo shows the chairs being cleaned. The white film seen on the chairs is the residue lifted from the finish with the use of mineral spirits. This is later cleaned off leaving the finish free of wax and dirt.
The next step was to sand the rough areas where the finish was removed and touch up the affected areas with pigments. This was later sealed in with a thin coat of Shellac.
Once everything had dried the chairs were abraded with steel wool and waxed. Then I put the slip seats back on. Here is a photo of the chair with the broken back splat.
Here are three of the side chairs completed.
This photo shows the last side chair with the two arm chairs.
The feet for the pedestal bases were a little tarnished, so I abraded them with fine steel wool to bring back the shine. below is a before and after photo of the feet followed by a photo of all of the feet cleaned up!

This last photo shows the pedestal bases restored with the brass feet attached.
